“A View from Beneath the Cross”
This pageant is a unique experience of Christ’s love. Campers are assured that it is just a re-enactment and that nobody has been hurt. The evening begins with a review of Christ’s life leading up to his crucifixion. Next one of the girl huddle leaders shares a monologue describing how Jesus treated the women and children throughout his ministry. Next one of the boy huddle leaders shares a story of a shopkeeper that sells the three nails that hung Jesus to the cross. Afterwards, one of the Pastors brings the message for the evening. Now that it has become dusk, the camp follows a luminary lit walkway down to the crosses. After a time of reflection, song, and scripture sharing, the camp heads back to the campfire. Campers are given time to reflect and ask questions. The next morning, we return to empty crosses for a celebration of communion. “A View from Beneath the Cross” demonstrates God’s agape (unconditional) love for all of mankind.
