A typical day of Elementary Camp fun...

The wake up bell rings for the first time at 7:00, and all the campers and counselors get ready for an awesome day at camp. The day begins with breakfast and some fun songs led by some of the more energetic counselors. As the week goes on, campers sometimes join in leading their favorite songs of the week or teaching a new song to the group. Some favorites are Bunny Foo Foo and Squeegie Hunt.

The campers take turns serving each other as "hoppers" (cleaning up) for the meal. Then they go to chapel from breakfast. In chapel, they sing praise songs and listen to a short message and scripture reading by Pastor Phil. Once again, as the week goes on, some of the campers have fun helping the counselors lead their favorite songs.

Next on the agenda is cabin-clean-up where campers try to have a tidy enough cabin to win the coveted Clean Cabin Award, judged by the camp medical officer. Sometimes, the award is just a colorful smiley face block of wood, but other times the award comes with a candy surprise.

Activity time! At the beginning of the week, each small group of about six to ten campers and two or three counsleors plan which exciting activities they want to fit into thier schedule for the week. The lake is a popular place to be at this time. Campers can swim, canoe, or play water games.

Another classic camp activity is arts and crafts. The campers test their artistic talents with a variety of craft projects, or they can make something out of gimp (lanyard) for themselves or a friend

It's back to the dining hall for lunch, another round of songs, and the most important announcement of the day: the winner of the Clean Cabin Award.

Things slow down for an hour as the campers and counselors head back to their cabins for a much needed rest. They can sleep, read, write letters home, and get ready for a busy afternoon.

Campers can't wait for the wake-up bell after rest hour because that means . . . canteen! They grab a quick snack and have some free time at the volleyball court. Some campers jump into the action of a volleyball or nuke 'em game, while others chat on the benches and grass.

More activities follow canteen, including skit practice, hikes, games, or making the journey to Ol' Baldy.

If it rains, there's no need to be bummed out because campers can dry off with inside games, a VeggieTales movie, or a quiet discussion about that morning's chapel topic.

After a delicious dinner up at the hall (or even a special cookout), it's time for the evening program. We've had several awesome programs at elementary camp, including . . .

The Larsen Family Singers

Steve Cavalieri and The New Kids puppet show

Rocket building and launch with Dean Milt (the campers got to spend some of their craft time putting together group rockets, then launched them)

Communion in the chapel or around the fire with Pastor Phil.

Skit night where each group shares a short piece like a comedy about the things that happen at camp, a serious reinactment of a Bible story, or anything in between.

After the evening program, it's time to worship by the campfire. The counselors light a fire, Pastor Phil tells a Biblical story, and the campers sing worship songs.

It's now nightfall, and the campers and counselors head back to their cabins for devotions and bonding, then sweet dreams filled of the next fun day of camp!
